The CREW...On Course I remember the first time my son and I went canoeing. What an event! Hard as we tried, we just could not synchronize our rowing efforts. I would row with hard strokes on my side of the canoe, while my son rowed with much easier strokes on his side. If you have ever been canoeing, you can guess the outcome- the canoe kept pulling to my side. We enjoyed being on the river together, but we struggled trying to keep that canoe going straight. During our efforts at canoe navigation, I watched as other pairs of individuals made canoeing look effortless as they would glide across the water. The secret to their success was they operated as a team, or in nautical terms, as a crew. If you ever have an opportunity, watch a rowing team in action. The men in the craft move in complete harmony as they pull the oars in sync to the commands. Now, that is a crew- a group of individuals applying their individual rowing skills to successfully move their craft through the water. When Jesus called the first of His disciples, He told them to follow Him, and He would make them “fishers of men”. They, in essence, became, “His crew”. Over the next three years, Jesus molded and shaped the twelve men, from various backgrounds and age groups, into a unified team of men, who would ultimately fulfill our Lord’s great commission to go and make disciples in all the nations. Before they could fish, they had to learn how to fish; before they could make disciples, they had to become disciples. In the process of becoming disciples, they became Godly Men; men whose character reflected the image of Christ. Today, two-thousand years later, our mission as the men of Crosspoint Free- Will Baptist Church is no different. We are being called by our Savior to follow Him on a journey, so He can make us fishers of men. In the process, He desires to develop us into the men we need to be- Godly Men, who reflect His image to our families, our brothers and sisters in Christ, and to a lost and dying world. The journey Christ calls us to is not solitary - we need each other. So members of |
